It’s a classic good news/bad news story. With the Senate into Week Two of considering a broad immigration overhaul bill that is good for the green industry, several hundred green industry professionals have already sent messages to their Senators urging support for S.744. That’s the good news. The bad news is, that number should be in the thousands!

There is still time, but not much. If you want to have a say in the outcome, do it now. Visit the ANLA/Lighthouse Program’s Legislative Action center, where you can send personalized messages to your Senators in just a few clicks.

The full U.S. Senate is expected to take up S.744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, during the week of June 10. The Senate will consider and vote on dozens, or even hundreds, of amendments to the bill during the remainder of the month of June. This is a pivotal moment. If the Senate manages to approve the bill with a broad bipartisan majority, odds for meaningful reform go way up. If not, it could be years before progress is made.

A new study released by Harvard University researchers, reports that immigrant laborers have contributed significantly more to Medicare than then have taken out. According to a report on Bloomberg.com, "Immigrants to the U.S. contributed $115.2 billion more to the Medicare Trust Fund during the past decade than they withdrew, casting doubt on criticism they overburden the health plan, Harvard University researchers said."
